Below are products that I personally use and have benefitted from. I have spent over 10 years trying to find the foods and supplements that really work, so I use everything here on a regular basis. There are many supplements I’ve cycled through that are popular but did not work for me. For example, turmeric extracts are very popular and I have tried many, but I never noticed any stunning improvements. The only things I share here are products that made a true impact on my life.

Cannabinoid Products

My professional work over the past seven years has been in the cannabis field. The preclinical and clinical science, as well as reports from thousands of individuals, shows that cannabinoids can exert a wide variety of therapeutic actions, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, neuroprotective, cardioprotective, liver protective, antianxiety, antidepressant, and even antibacterial effects. The nonpsychotropic and legal phytocannabinoids cannabidiol (CBD) and cannabidiolic acid (CBDA), the latter of which is the unheated form of CBD, have been especially helpful for me. I have also enjoyed cannabigerol (CBG) and include it here for those interested, although I don’t use it as much as CBD and CBDA. These cannabinoids do not cause the psychoactive effects associated with tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and are very safe overall. While THC does have medical benefit and is important for many people, these other cannabinoids are more accessible and for many people are enough for helping their medical needs.

There are hundreds of CBD brands on the market, but I love this one for several reasons. First, it is one of the few that is USDA Organic, confirming a complete absence of pesticides, herbicides, and heavy metals. It’s also one of the only products which includes terpene results on the publicly-available lab tests. Terpenes are integral to bringing out the full power of CBD, and Aspen Green products have a wide variety of both terpenes and other cannabinoids that act in synergy with CBD to boost its effects.

CBDA is the raw, unheated form of CBD, and some research shows it is better absorbed and more effective than CBD for some indications. With CBD, it takes a dose of 25-50mg for me to notice it, but I can notice as little as 10mg of CBDA, especially in regards to focus during meditation. I like to combine CBD and CBDA for an ultra full-spectrum effect. Furthermore, the Healer brand is run by Dr. Dustin Sulak, a physician I have known for over 8 years, who truly cares about patients and developed these products to give them better options, especially for raw cannabinoids.

CBG is known as the “mother cannabinoid” because all other cannabinoids are derived from it via enzymatic reactions. It shares many benefits with CBD, and some people report it works especially well for nerve and inflammatory pain, relaxation, and sleep. While I have less experience with CBG compared to CBD and CBDA, I believe it is a powerful option for those who are not achieving optimal relief with either of those cannabinoids.

Adaptogenic Herbs

Adaptogens are plant medicines that help restore balance and are exceptionally safe with little to no overdose potential. They work at fundamental levels to improve resilience to stress and environmental toxins. I believe if the use of adaptogens increased within society, there would be a lot less stress and suffering overall. Ashwagandha is my favorite product in this category.

Ashwagandha is one of the most powerful adaptogenic herbs, and Portland Ashwagandha Farm produces the best tincture I have ever experienced. Noticeable effects on stress, resilience, and sleep.

Also known as Holy Basil, Tulsi is especially good for relieving anxiety. I’ve used the Organic India Tulsi tea a lot in the past, and it is good, but this tincture feels so much more potent and effective.

Astragalus is another incredible adaptogen that can be used for overall wellness. It makes me feel calm and focused. I have not been consciously aware of immune support benefits but it is probably helping there too.

Medicinal Mushrooms

Mushrooms have been used by humans for thousands of years for their health benefits. Even Hippocrates remarked on their exceptional properties. The polysaccharides in mushrooms, primarily beta-glucans, appear to be responsible for many of the benefits, especially immune-boosting properties. Some mushrooms, especially Reishi, are considered adaptogenic because they support whole body health and high doses can be taken safely. This is not the case though for Lion’s mane, as there have been several reports (including from a close friend) that using beyond the recommended level can cause a rash. However, I’ve had no personal problems going slightly above the recommended dose and love the unique cognitive benefits of Lion’s mane.

This is the best mushroom blend I have ever used. It contains seven different mushroom extracts derived only from fruiting bodies. The serving size is also quite small so the bag lasts a long time.

For mental health support, Lion’s mane is definitely one of the most valuable mushrooms. This powder combines mycelium and fruiting body for a full-spectrum effect I can feel. I like mixing a little bit of Sacred 7 with it for maximum benefit.

If I could only use one mushroom, this would be it. Reishi is the best mushroom in my opinion for general health and imparts a sense of foundational strength and calm, especially with long-term use.

Power Seeds

I call these “power seeds” because they really feel like they give me power. Plant life begins in seeds, so it makes sense that consuming them fills you with life. These are my three favorite seed products. I am split on whether I like the basil seeds or black seeds best, at this point I feel like I can’t live without either. The sprouted flax seeds are also amazing, but I don’t feel the need to use it every day. In general, seeds are very rich in protein, fats, minerals, and antioxidant compounds. Sometimes I feel like my salads and yogurts are just advanced seed delivery mechanisms!

These are my #1 favorite seeds. They are packed with Omega-3 and, as the package notes, have even more nutrients than chia seeds. They are great in salads and yogurt, or you can soak them in water and drink it pretty easily.

This was the first sprouted seed I ever used. Sprouting increases nutrients and enzymes while decreasing anti-nutrients. I’ll never go back to regular flax seed again. Another strong Omega-3 source packed with other key nutrients.

I got into black seeds after first purchasing black seed oil and feeling great from it. The black seed itself is so much more affordable, and you get a fuller spectrum of nutrients with any whole-food compared to being processed.
